Why we started this

Hi, I’m Manon 👋. I was born in Thailand, then was adopted and moved to France when I was 6 years old. I had nobody to speak Thai with, and I couldn’t speak French. My grandmother used to sit by the pool playing a card game. Curious, I went to sit next to her and watch what she was doing. We played together for hours, in silence. There was no need to communicate, no language barrier, just the love of a game that connected us.

Card games and board games have always been an important part of my life. I’ve lived in Chiang Mai for 9 years, and like a lot of people here, I love a good board game night, whether it’s with my friends, my husband, or my kids. But buying games one by one gets expensive fast, and they take up space you don’t always have, especially if you move around a lot.

So I started BoredGamesRental: a small collection of board games (from quick party games to proper strategy classics) that you can rent instead of buy. Pick a game, tell us your dates, and we sort out the rest.

It’s early days! The catalog is still growing, and I’m building this around what people here actually want to play. If there’s a game you wish was on the list, or one sitting unused in your own collection, let me know.

We rent board games, and we host board games nights too

Renting is how it all started, but we also like bringing people together around a table. We organize board games nights in Chiang Mai, open to everyone: come alone or with friends, try new games, and meet other players. Close to 20 people joined our very first one.
